First Grade News!

Dear Parents,

It has been a busy but fun week in first grade. The class went to the pumpkin patch and we had parent-teacher conferences.

First off, I would like to give a huge “Thank you” to all of our parents helpers on our field trip. The kids were looking at animals and playing on the spider web. They also picked their pumpkin out. It was a great time. Thank you!

Next, I was thrilled to meet with the many families, discussing your child’s academic progress. I have enjoyed getting to know your first grader and I am ready for the second quarter. This quarter will speed right along.

Just some odds and ends…I have sent home the first of many fluency practice pages. This page is an opportunity to provide your child with extra reading practice. It allows your child to become more fluent and grow confident with the reading process. The book orders are also due on Monday, October 18th.

Literacy Tip-

As I have mentioned, reading and writing is so important. Did you know learning to read is the highest predictor for life success? It means that children who are readers will be more successful in school, more likely go to college, and have a higher quality of life. Reading for pleasure is key.
